Theocratic Agenda Concerns AU Leader

Speaking to Cleveland County Democrats, Dr. Bruce Prescott, President of the Oklahoma Chapter of AU, expressed concerns about a theocratic agenda being pushed at every level of society by Radical Religious Right activists.

Here are some excepts from what he had to say:

The theocratic agenda is why Judge Roy Moore parked a two and a half ton monument to the ten commandments in the doorway of the courthouse in Alabama.

· The theocratic agenda is why Roy Moore’s religious shrine is now touring the country and why Radical Right theocratic preachers are kneeling before it and praying before unleashing the rhetoric of holy war trying to mobilize armies of Christian soldiers to go to the ballot box this fall.

· The theocratic agenda is why political campaigns are asking churches to give them their membership lists and trying to identify someone in the congregation who will distribute campaign literature to their members.

· The theocratic agenda is why some legislators tried to add an amendment to the “American Jobs Creation Act” that would merely fine preachers and churches that endorse political candidates instead of stripping them of their tax exempt status. Fortunately, the amendment didn’t pass.

· The theocratic agenda is why all around the country a rash of preachers, most of them Baptists, are being investigated by the IRS for endorsing political candidates from their pulpits.

· The theocratic agenda is why the Jones bill is being resurrected in congress – the original Jone’s bill would have made it legal for preachers to endorse political candidates from the pulpit and for churches to send a percentage (up to 20%) of their tax deductible contributions to support political candidates and political parties.

Dr. Prescott’s speech was received well by Cleveland County Democrats. He and chapter Executive Secretary, Jim Huff, have also spoken at other Democratic Party meetings and at meetings of the Libertarian Party. They solicit invitations to speak at meetings of the Republican Party and the Independent Party.
